wanted NVDI 4

I want and need a copy of NVDI 4. The reason is that NVDI 5 or 5.03 does
not play nice with x-windows, or at least I have not found how to make it
cooperate.

What is the problem? I ran x.app on my Falcon together with NVDI 5 for
years.

Maybe provisions for Papyrus, and Speedo Bitstream vector fonts.

It sets a FIF path in NVDI.INF, but does not write a FIF file there.

I do own a FIF file, which is not recognized as such, but I do not know
which version wrote it, and one that does not default to BTFONTS might
write a proper FIF file. What I have is two disks of NVDI 5.01, and the
upgrade disk to 5.03, and what may have been the very last CD of 5.03.

I also have a printed-out fonts.db, which is not what x-windows writes
now, since NVDI finds only system fonts now.

In other words, I really do not know what is wrong, and need to try
something else.

I'm afraid I don't understand the problem. What doesn't work? Papyrus?
X? I used a plain xserver-install and a plain NVDI5-install (5.03)
without problems.

Obviously, I have some mysterious problem. X-windows, under exactly the
same circumstances, does not find the fonts it used to find.

Papyrus is not currently installed. I do not need a document processor,
with a very good typing program and Calamus.

What worked for you does not currently work for me, and I am looking for
something else to try. The something else I am looking for in NVDI 4.

Then the circumstances must have changed ;-) You mean that it doesn't
find the VDI fonts, right?

Have you tried the following?

1. Delete the files /etc/X11/fonts.alias and /var/lib/Xapp/fonts.db.
2. Make sure that X.app has write access the the folders mentioned
above.

I doubt that downgrading to NVDI4 will help, but it might be worth a
try. Unfortunately I don't know where to find it.

I have some parts on order to check out a suspicion. The ASCI port does
not seem to work, the floppy port produces only an occasional note that
the disk is defective, and both those things use the same DMA chip, and
the port uses three DIP chips. If, and only if, NVDI burps because it
cannot verify that a laser printer exists, this might (or might not) solve
my problem.

I have swapped laser printers, since I have two in working condition, and
that changed nothing.

I will of course try what you suggested, and report on the results of
that.

Is this a TT?

Disable or remove the SLM-driver, if the problem persists then this is
not related to the printer. Does other apps (like Teradesk or
FontSelect) recognise the fonts?
