Hi,

there are still people like Tony Simsig who think that women are too
stupid to program software for computers and to prove him and other
men who think so wrong, I've created the group "ATARI Girls":

http://groups.google.com/group/atari-girls

This is a group where female programmers can show their programs,
tools and games.

Men may also join, but I don't want guys like Mr.Simsig on the group,
since I hate flame-wars.

On the group, girls may show what they're capable of. You can send
your code to atari-***@googlegroups.com by email. You may also send
executable files and screenshots as email-attachments.

If you need more room, you can use other services for hosting your
data and you can then provide the links.

This is no dating group, so men, please do not approach girls.

And now, have fun,

ATARI Girl

If they say that, ask them who programmed one of the great games called
River Raid :-) You go girls, anybody can do it, just need effort

Should not be needed really if people were not so set in their ways I
suppose.
Personally, I've never seen why one would suggest any gender is better than
the other at programming, its just what you are interested in and grasping
concepts after all.

Maybe its just men who like playing with old stuff, or that might be seen
as daft!
Nostalgia ain't what it used to be.

I'm assuming that these Atari Girls will be using XLs... You know, so
that they match the wedding dress, stove, and washing machine.

I don't understand. Most of the XL's that I have seen were black, no?

Yeah, even I'll admit that that one was a stretch. I was going for the
white part of the XL matching the usual color of the dress and
appliances, but it didn't really work.

So here's something I didn't expect to find on Amazon instead:

Cassette lore: I remember one of the criteria for what was a serious
or modern computer was: If it ever had a cassette interface it
couldn't be modern. By that definition the IBM PC which came stock
with a cassette interface was classified as previous generation.

I loved my Atari cassette! My first was one of the GE types but I
picked up a bunch of 1010s after that. I was doing a lot of programing
for other people which meant me doing M/L programs for them to call
from BASIC mostly. I must of stepped on DOS a 1000 times rendering it
incapable of saving my work. Heck, couldn't even load a utility to
step through memory.

Before I got Omnimon and developed better programming practices, like
save before you run or compile, the cassettes saved my bacon dozens of
times. I can remember getting in arguments with ROM vs. loadable
binary for DOS mainly on my experience with how when everything else
went south on an Atari you could always count on the ROM cassette
routines to still be there after an errant pointer.

Just my op but every computer should have a routine in ROM that is
bullet proof. Just something that comes in maybe as an interrupt and
watches for a key combination. It would only need to be big enough to
write out a memory snap shot so you could figure out what happened.

The XL might not match the color of the wedding dress, but it might
match the size. :P
